Membership terms and conditions

1. Agreement

The National Museum of Science and Technology, operating under the name of Ingenium, (hereinafter referred to as “us“, “we” and/or “Ingenium“), welcomes you to our website (the “Site“) and thanks you for your interest in our Membership Program (together with the Site, the “Services“)!

Ingenium is pleased to offer you (“you” and similar terms, or “Member“) membership (“Membership“) to the three Ottawa museums we operate (collectively the “Museums“):

  • Canada Science and Technology Museum
  • Canada Aviation and Space Museum
  • Canada Agriculture and Food Museum

By purchasing a Membership, you signify that you have read, fully understand and agree to be legally bound by these Terms (the “Terms” or “Agreement“) including the provisions regarding the automatic renewal of your Membership, based on the Membership level you select when first enrolling. You may cancel future renewals of your Membership at any time. If you would like to cancel future renewals of your Membership, please click here for more information.

You also agree to comply with all applicable laws and regulations as they may change from time to time.

IF YOU DO NOT ACCEPT AND AGREE TO BE LEGALLY BOUND BY AND COMPLY WITH THESE TERMS, YOU MAY NOT PURCHASE A MEMBERSHIP.

We suggest you print a copy of these Terms for your records.

You hereby acknowledge and agree that we reserve the right at any time to modify or discontinue the whole, or any part of our Membership program, without notice, and that we will not be responsible or liable, directly or indirectly, to you or any other person or entity for any loss or damage of any kind incurred as a result of any such modifications or discontinuance. We may terminate your Membership if you violate these Terms, or applicable law.

2. Eligibility

Membership is open to those who have reached the legal age of majority in the province or territory they live in at the time they purchase a Membership.

You are not required to purchase a Membership to visit our Museums. For information on single day tickets, please visit tickets.ingenium.ca.

3. Registration and account security

Certain features and/or portions of the Services are available to members, and are password-protected and require you to complete a registration process and create an account (“Account“) in order to obtain access and/or participate. You can purchase both tickets and Membership without creating an account in ‘guest mode’; however, Membership entails creation of a Member Account.

When registering with us to use any such features and/or portions of the Services, and when otherwise making a purchase from us, you agree: (i) that you will provide complete and accurate information about yourself; and (ii) to update such information as it changes. Members may update your information through their Account. In the event that you do not provide or update such information, or we have reasonable grounds to suspect that you have not provided or updated such information, we shall have the right, in our sole and absolute discretion, to disable your password and prevent you from using the Services, or any such features or portions of the Services.

It is your responsibility to keep the password provided to you confidential and secure. In the event that your username or password is used without your consent or that you discover any other breach of security, you agree to promptly notify us using the contact information below. We are not responsible for your failure to comply with this clause, or for any delay in shutting down your Account after you have reported a breach of security to us. You are solely responsible for any and all activities which occur under your user Account.

4. Purchasing a Membership

You will be billed upfront for your entire Membership period at the time you purchase your Membership. You have a legal obligation to pay for your Membership. In order to complete your Membership purchase, you will be required to provide additional information to process your order. For example, you will be required to provide valid payment information (e.g. a valid credit card number and expiration date, or other means of payment which we choose to accept from time to time) to facilitate payment as well as your billing address and other contact information. You must provide valid credit card information for the purpose of the automatic renewal of your Membership (which you may opt out of at anytime). If you do not wish to provide a credit card for this purpose, you may always purchase a ticket for Museum access on a single day.

By completing a purchase, you are agreeing to pay, in full, the prices and all applicable taxes specified at the time you place your order, either by credit card or other permitted payment method. Applicable taxes and fees will be charged at the time you are billed. The applicable taxes may depend on your jurisdiction of residence. If complete payment for your order is not received and verified by us, your order will not be processed. If payment cannot be processed on renewal, your Membership will be cancelled at the end of your current Term unless you provide an alternate means of payment, and payment by that alternate method is successful. If you do not complete or improperly complete your order, it may not be accepted or acknowledged.

Unless otherwise indicated, all dollar amounts on the Site are in Canadian Dollars.

All payments through our Site are processed by a third-party service provider, not by Ingenium directly.

We reserve the right, in our sole and absolute discretion, to change the permitted methods of payment, including without limitation, the credit cards and/or other types of payment options we are able to accept, at any time.

5. Membership terms and renewals

Membership with Ingenium lasts for one (1) year from the date on which you purchase your Membership (the “Term“).

At the end of your Membership Term, your Membership will automatically renew for a subsequent one (1) year Term, at the same Membership class, unless you cancel auto-renewal of your Membership before your renewal date.

You may cancel auto-renewal of your Membership at any time without penalty. There is no refund for cancelling your Membership; however, you will retain your Membership benefits for the remainder of your Term, and you will not be billed for any further renewals.

By purchasing a Membership and providing a payment method, you authorize us to charge your payment method at the start of your Membership Term and, where applicable, at the start of each renewal Term, unless you terminate or cancel auto-renewal of your Membership before the relevant renewal Term begins.

We will notify you before the end of your Membership that your Membership Term is expiring and will renew unless you cancel, and we will provide you with the terms and conditions that will apply if you would like to renew your Membership. You have the option to cancel or renew your Membership. If you do not cancel auto-renewal of your Membership before the expiration of your then current Membership Term, your Membership will be automatically renewed at the then current renewal price for a new one (1) year Membership Term.

Ingenium offers three Membership classes, each with their own price and access benefits, as follows:

  1. Individual Membership. $70 plus tax per year. Offers unlimited access to our Museums for the named Member during normal Museum opening hours.

  • Parking for one (1) vehicle (ordinary consumer vehicle size) at Ingenium Museums. $39 plus tax per year.

Ingenium reserves the right to offer discounted Membership prices to certain Members, or to certain classes of Members. For example, we may from time to time offer discounts to students, seniors, or to others at our discretion. These offers, and the conditions for claiming them, may change from time to time, and will be stated when we extend such an offer. For a list of currently available offers, click here.

6. Cancelling Auto-Renewal of your Membership

You may cancel auto-renewal of your Membership at any time without penalty.

Cancellation of your Membership takes effect at your next scheduled renewal date. Prior to that date, if you cancel, you will continue to enjoy your Membership benefits for the remainder of your Membership Term; however, your Membership will not renew and you will not be billed again in respect of it.

To cancel your Membership you may either:

7. Membership benefits

In addition to the Museum access benefits set out above, members in each Membership class receive the following benefits:

  1. Access to members-only events, tours, workshops and special events. The available events, tours, workshops and special events may vary from year to year, and may be subject to additional limitations, including limited capacity and advance registration requirements.
  2. Access to certain paid events, tours, workshops and access to Ingenium designated special events at a reduced price. The available events, tours, workshops and special events may vary from year to year, and may be subject to additional limitations, including limited capacity and advance registration requirements. For certainty, some events (including some tours and workshops) may require purchase of a ticket by both members and by non-members.
  3. For Individual and Family Members, free access to select museums and centres participating in our reciprocal access program. Access to other centres may be subject to the terms and conditions of those institutions. These include museums and institutions participating in:
    • The Canada Association of Science Centres (CASC). Access to CASC centres is only valid for Individual and Family memberships as defined by the CASC. Access does not include: corporate, school, daycare or any other group/organization admissions. In order to benefit from the reciprocal admission agreement at a CASC centre, the Member must live more than 150km from the centre they wish to visit. The front desk staff at participating centres reserves the right to request proof of residence as a condition of access. Each participating science center or museum may place its own additional restrictions on access. Please review the CASC Reciprocal Agreement participants list for further details: canadiansciencecentres.ca/Reciprocal-Agreement; and
    • The Association of Science and Technology Centres (ASTC). Ingenium is a member of the ASTC Travel Passport Program. This Program provides benefits such as free general admission to certain other participating institutions outside the local area of the Member (the local area is 90 miles of the science center/museum where the visitor is a member. This distance is measured “as the crow flies,” meaning that it is based on the linear radius, not driving distance). ASTC benefits do not include free or discounted admission to special exhibits, planetariums, or large screen theater presentations, nor do they include museum store discounts and other benefits associated with museum membership unless otherwise stated by the ASTC member institution. Each participating centre or museum may place its own additional restrictions on access. Before travelling, visit the ASTC website to review the admittance policy of the science centre/museum you wish to visit to confirm eligible benefits. Each institution reserves the right to request proof of residence and Ingenium Membership for benefits to apply.

The museums and institutions participating in the reciprocal access program may change from time to time, including during the Term of any Membership. For a list of currently participating museums and institutions, please refer to the CASC and ASTC websites.

  4. 10% discounts on certain purchases at the Ingenium cafés and boutiques (both onsite at our Museums, and on our website). This discount is applied pre-tax, and is subject to exclusions that Ingenium may state from time to time, including sale/clearance items, gift cards and shipping fees.

8. Conditions of Membership

Memberships are subject to the following conditions, limitations and restrictions:

  1. Memberships are not transferable. Named Memberships may only be used by the named Member, and a named Member must be present during each Museum visit. Ingenium may request photo ID to verify that the individual using the Membership is the named Member.
  2. All attendees at our Museums are required to comply with the code of conduct, all applicable public health conditions that may then be in place, as well as all instructions from our staff and volunteers. Please refer to the code of conduct of the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum, Canada Aviation and Space Museum and Canada Science and Technology Museum for details.

The Releasees do not assume any liability for any damage you may experience or costs you may incur as a result of any electronic transmissions over the internet or otherwise within the Site, such as transmissions involving the exchange of electronic messages of any kind (including those which may contain your personal information).

13. Privacy

The Museums Act is the general authority for the operations of Ingenium, including its collecting and processing of personal information. Without limiting the generality of these Terms, your use of the Services is also subject to the terms of our Privacy policy. Please carefully review our Privacy policy. By using the Services, you agree that you have read, fully understand and agree to our Privacy policy.

14. Changes to these Terms

We reserve the right to make changes to these Terms, and our Membership program in whole or in part, at any time, and from time to time. These changes may include, but are not limited to, the availability and/or any aspect of the Membership program and Membership classes (including the available terms and renewal structures), Membership fees and pricing, available benefits, Museum hours and codes of conduct, and refund and cancellation policies. We may make changes from time to time and at any time.

For existing Members, we will notify you in the event we make changes to these Terms. Where required by law, or at our discretion, we will provide you with notice thirty (30) days prior to the effective date of the change by posting an updated version of these Terms on our Site and/or by sending a message to the email address (or other contact information we have for you at our discretion) associated with your account. Such notice will set out the new clause, or the amended clause, and the date of the coming into force of the amendment.
